It’s the most wonderful time of the year: time to focus on the people who matter

This year, give yourself the gift of peace of mind – knowing you’ve got arrangements in place to protect your loved ones.

One of the most important things you can do as a pension scheme member is name the people you’d like to receive benefits from your pension if you die before you take them. You do this by filling in an expression of wish form. We talked about this previously.

Forms sorted? How else can you protect your loved ones?

Have you got an up-to-date will? And, did you know you can appoint people to make decisions about important things in the future – such as finance, care, and where you will live – if you become unable to make decisions yourself? This is known as lasting power of attorney, and it can make things easier for your loved ones if they know they’ve got the power to help you in this way.

Ready to take your pension benefits? Keep those loved ones in mind.

If you’re planning to start taking your benefits soon, there are options that can help protect your loved ones. For example, if you buy an annuity to give you a guaranteed income, you can choose one that pays income to your husband, wife or civil partner if you die before them. You can talk to one of our expert retirement advisers if you need help with sorting out benefits to protect your loved ones.

Let’s look after each other.
